BizBooks.net is pleased to showcase a few of the local creators for this round of the 2018 Storyhive Digital Shorts Edition.

In this interview, we talked to Christina Beamish about Sunday Morning, Coming Down.

________________________________

Can you start by telling us about you and your film?

I’m a first-time, queer, female director. I’ve always been a writer/storyteller but over the last few years I’ve been working on developing my skills and knowledge of the film industry. My goal is to bring new, representative and inclusive LGBTQ+ stories to an under-served audience.

Sunday Morning, Coming Down is a romantic comedy centered around two men reconnecting after an ill-fated high school kiss five years earlier. It’s slice of life, character study that anyone can related to but told in a way that is unique to the queer experience. Our productions aims to provide a showcase for LGBTQ+ stories and the people that bring those stories to life.

Who else is involved in this project?

Our team is filled with multi-talented people that I continue to be in complete awe of. Firstly we have Producer/Actor/Activist, Chevi Rabbitt. Chevi joined the project earlier this year as both a producer and as one of our featured roles.

Secondly, we have Producer/Cinematographer Extraordinaire: Chase Gardiner. Chase has been an extraordinary ally and champion of this project from the first draft of the script.

Thirdly, we have our amazing production designer Andrea Clark. The preliminary plans that Andrea has put together are mind-blowing and I truly can’t wait to see her bring her vision to life.

Last but certainly not least, we have our amazing cast. Jacob Holloway as one of our leads and Mandie Lauren Jichita as one of our featured characters. I genuinely can’t wait to see their interpretations of these characters!

We are currently still building out our crew, our team and our cast. With each new addition, this project grows and comes one step closer to fruition.

What would making this film mean to you?

Sunday Morning, Coming Down has been a true labour of love. Making this film would be the culmination of five years spent creating and advocating for this story.

Making this film would open doors not only for myself but for other members of the LGBTQ+ community that are eager to participate in a completely inclusive and intersectional production. It will allow me to tell this story the way it was meant to be told, with the people this story strives to represent.

Lastly, getting to tell this story would further galvanize my belief that this can be the future of LGBTQ+ filmmaking.

________________________________

What film-related books or authors have been influential in your career so far?

The first film book I ever picked up was The Portable Film School: Everything You’d Learn in Film School (Without Ever Going to Class) by D.B. Gilles. It was a great introduction for someone coming in with next to know practical knowledge about the process of filmmaking.

The other film-related books that have been significant influences for me primarily focus on DIY and micro-budget productions. Such as Independent Ed by Ed Burns and Rebel Without a Crew by Robert Rodriguez.

Where can we find out more about your film?

You can learn more about our film, follow along with the casting process, Storyhive updates on the project and behind the scenes content at the Sunday Morning, Coming Down Facebook page.
