Miss Julie is set at a posh country estate in the 1880s and takes place over the course of one dramatic midsummer night. When Miss Julie’s (Jessica Chastain) stern father leaves, she takes advantage of the sudden atmosphere of wild revelry and loosened social constraints, and seduces John (Colin Farrell), her father’s valet. But in the aftermath, a devastating and charged power struggle erupts between the two lovers – one that will end with shocking and deadly consequences.
A revered classic in the theatre, August Strindberg’s Miss Julie was written in 1888, and has remained powerful text with contemporary resonances.
