Theatre Contest: Ensemble Theatre Festival

BizBooks.net is offering the chance to see a performance at the Ensemble Theatre Festival.

Festival Details

Presenting its fourth annual summer festival, Ensemble Theatre Company (ETC) will perform three plays in repertory from July 14 to August 20, 2016. The program will feature the searing dark comedy Betrayal, the carnage of war in The Romans in Britain told in three time periods, and the salacious Restoration satire The Country Wife. Three outdoor Sunday readings and its popular late-night cabaret will round out events, all held at the Jericho Arts Centre (1675 Discovery Street, Vancouver).

Pinter’s autobiographical play Betrayal, charts seven years of an adulterous relationship between a wife and her husband’s best friend, told in reverse—exposing flawed behaviour on all sides as well as the pain and loss of love and deception.

By Harold Pinter, directed by Matthew Bissett

Featuring Corina Akeson, James Gill and Tariq Leslie

The morally questioning and violent drama, The Romans in Britain, was written as an indictment on Britain’s military involvement in Northern Ireland. It draws parallels with the war on terrorism and current foreign policy in the US. Notorious for the first male rape scene presented on stage, it spurred a sensational legal case in England when it premiered in 1980.

By Howard Brenton, directed by Richard Wolfe

The Country Wife is a 17th century classic packed with witty dialogue, innuendo, and idiotic schemes; it is a bawdy comedy skewering class, caste and cash—commentary that remains relevant to contemporary audiences.

By William Wycherly, directed by Tariq Leslie

Featuring Masae Day, Chad Ellis, Edward Foy, Alexis Kellum-Creer, and Christine Reifort
